How Drones Changed Real Estate Photography
By Shannon Ortega, Full Frame Media
Aerial views used to be a luxury reserved for a few large properties. Drones changed that by making them available for everyday listings.
What changed
- Access. Aerial photos and video now fit the budget of a typical listing.
- Speed. A drone can capture a property in a short time during the same visit as the interior shoot.
- Perspective. Buyers can see the lot, the neighborhood and the surroundings in one view.
What buyers get from it
Aerial images answer questions photos from the ground cannot: how big is the yard, what is behind the house, and how close are the neighbors. That context is useful for homes with land, water or views.
What to look for in a pilot
- FAA licensing for commercial drone flights.
- Experience flying near homes, trees and power lines.
- Clean, well-edited images with accurate color.
Our aerial photo and video is FAA-licensed. See our guides on whether a drone helps a listing and aerial photos or video, or book a shoot.
